How this course works

Jump Start is organized into a 9-days learning program.

Each day contains lessons about a specific topic. The lessons are small enough for you to study them in one session.

As you may have guessed, the idea is that you can easily complete each day's lessons in a single day.

Each day requires about 2-3 hours of study to be completed, but it can be less or more than that depending on your current knowledge. If you find some concepts hard to grasp, feel free to spend some more time on it until it becomes clear.

Jump Start is specifically designed for absolute beginners.

Therefore, no previous programming knowledge or experience is required to start this course.

And you do not have to do anything by yourself: all the necessary steps to start coding in PHP are explained in the Day 1 lessons.

Course outline.

The first 3 days cover the basics.

You will be introduced to dynamic web pages and to the role of the PHP language, and you will learn how to code in PHP on your computer. Next, you'll see how variables, arrays and constants work in PHP, as well as the different variable types.

In days 4, 5 and 6 you'll go deeper and learn more about PHP.

You'll see how you can use variables, what functions are and the difference between core and user-defined functions, as well as how to find the functions you need in the PHP documentation. Next, you'll learn how to apply logic conditions to your code by using control structures.

Finally, in the last 3 days you'll take the final steps towards writing your own PHP applications.

You will go through a list of useful PHP functions to get started, and you'll learn how to let users send data to your PHP scripts. Finally, you'll learn how to "remember" users with PHP Sessions.
